Rollback #1 at Bakka-Phoenix

I'm pleased as punch to announced that my 17th novel Rollback was the #1 bestselling hardcover for the entire year of 2007 at Toronto's Bakka-Phoenix, the world's oldest surviving science-fiction specialty bookstore, beating out J.K. Rowling for the top spot.

And Phyllis Gotlieb's Birthstones, published under Red Deer Press's Robert J. Sawyer Books imprint, was #4.

At #1 on the paperback list: Old Man's War by my friend John Scalzi.

The full lists, in all categories, are here in Bakka-Phoenix's LiveJournal.

Holy cripes. You beat out Harry? Specialty bookstore or not, that is well done. Of course, Rollback was great.

Congratulations Robert. Its great news also for the imprint.

I hope I can leave this link to Seth Finklestein's article at the Guardian on the internet and the writer's strike. This is one of his best yet.

(I know you admired Andrew Keen's Cult of the Amateur book, and the argument here compliments it).

Congrats!! That is a pretty cool accomplishment.

And the good business association goes both ways, I saw last night. I'm in the middle of Factoring Humanity, and laughed out loud seeing Bakka featured in the book as a bookstore that Kyle visits.

As one of your Toronto fans, I always enjoy the fun little local details that make me feel extra-connected to the characters. Sometimes it's a little unnerving. Heather's office (in FH) is just down the hall from the one I used to inhabit. Kyle goes strolling across Mel Lastman Square to the Centre for the Performing Arts (where my daughter performed last month with her choral group in the premiere of Kositsky's Requiem for Cecelia Zhang) and he reminisces about seeing "Showboat" there (which was the first show my dd saw by the theatre company that she joined this fall for her musical theatre debut!)
