This is a guide to award-winning English-language Canadian
science fiction and fantasy novels and short fiction.
In brochure format, thousands of copies
of this guide have been distributed over the years by Bakka,
Toronto's SF specialty store. Versions also appears as appendices in
the anthologies
Distant Early Warnings: Canada's Best Science Fiction,
edited by Robert J. Sawyer (Red Deer Press, 2009), and
Aurora Awards: An Anthology of Prize-Winning
Science Fiction & Fantasy, edited by Edo van Belkom
(Quarry Press, 1999).
"Sawyer's list could be considered as a buying guide for those
new to the genres of fantasy and science fiction."
Canadian Materials
This compendium includes credible juried awards and prizes as
well as peer-voted and reader-voted awards that are limited to
a single ballot per person in each phase of nominating or voting;
unregulated polls that allow multiple votes from the same individual
are not listed here.
Mainstream awards that have recognized works that may have a speculative
element but were not actually published as science fiction or fantasy are
generally not listed here; however, when such a work receives an SF/F genre
award, it is cited below.
The listings begin with the Aurora Awards, Canada's highest honour in
science fiction and fantasy, followed by other awards in alphabetical order.
Awards named in honour of individuals are alphabetized by surname.
For instance, the "Carl Brandon Kindred Award" is sorted under "B."
An asterisk (*) marks works that have won multiple awards
