Aurora Award Ceremonies

[Robert J. Sawyer] [Sawyer and Garneau]

That's me above accepting the Aurora Award — Canada's top honor in science-fiction writing — for Best English Short Story at the Winnipeg Worldcon in September 1994. To my delight, the award was presented by Canadian astronaut Marc Garneau; you can see him standing behind me in the picture on the right.

My 1994 Aurora was for my story "Just Like Old Times," published both in On Spec magazine and Mike Resnick's anthology Dinosaur Fantastic.

On the left, I'm receiving another Aurora Award — in November 1997 at the convention Toronto Trek for Best English Novel from Babylon 5 star Richard Biggs, for my novel Starplex. That year, I won two Aurora Awards; the other was for my short story "Peking Man" from the anthology Dark Destiny III.
